General Insurance Article - Renault-Nissan alliance to monetize 'OEM' data via The Floow

Initiative will offer insurers scores through data originating directly from the vehicle architecture removing the need for aftermarket installation. The Floow, already the trusted provider of telematics data services to the world’s leading insurers, has been appointed by the Renault-Nissan Alliance to deliver an analytics suite using original data from current and future generations of Renault and Nissan vehicles, in a partnership the two businesses today referred to as ‘innovative and ground-breaking’.

The initiative, which will see The Floow act as data analysis partner - responsible for generating a family of insurance grade scores and analytics from native equipment - is believed to be one of the world’s first ‘at source’ use of telematics in the motor industry.

Renault-Nissan, which reported record vehicle sales of 8.5 million in 2014 amid rising sales in the United States and Western Europe, said the ‘highly complementary partnership’ was part of its strategic user services plan.

The two companies have started showcasing to leading insurers the benefits of their integrated solution. In an environment where most global insurers are adopting usage-based insurance, the joint Renault-Nissan and The Floow telematics platform is poised to deliver unique advantages to participating insurers, including:

  1.   Originally warrantied and line-fitted telematics on-board units offering highest level of protection against hacking risk
  2.
  3.   No need for laborious fulfilment currently imposed by aftermarket solutions
  4.
  5.   Quality and breadth of original data
  6.
  7.   Integration with on-board dashboard and resources
  8.
  9.   The Floow industry leading scoring suite
Aldo Monteforte, CEO of The Floow, said:
“I am delighted to be in a position to announce our partnership with one of the leading car manufacturers in the world. Renault-Nissan is going to equip a growing proportion of vehicles with sophisticated sensors and connectivity.

“As Renault-Nissan telematics data partner, The Floow is ideally placed to deliver proven predictive analytics and digital end-user services that cater to the needs of the motor insurance industry. This crucial partnership sees our organisation move one step closer to the vision of safer and cheaper mobility for all.”

Thierry Viadieu and Redmer Van Der Meer from Renault-Nissan said:
“This initiative is reflective of the innovative and ground-breaking partnership that we have established with The Floow. As a leading car manufacturer operating on a global scale we are committed to exploring ways in which we can improve our product and continue to appeal to the consumer.

“Working side by side with The Floow we are now looking to introduce the Renault-Nissan telematics solution to a number of insurers willing to offer integrated Usage Based Insurance.”
