Aegon UK donates £66,666 to local charities

Aegon UK has awarded a total of £66,666 to its three chosen charities for 2014. Each of the charities - Alzheimer Scotland, Children with Cancer and Leukaemia, Advice and Support for Parents (CCLASP) and the Michelle Henderson Cervical Cancer Trust – received a cheque for £22,222, which was presented by Adrian Grace, CEO at Aegon UK at the Edinburgh Park headquarters.

The company’s employees fundraised tirelessly throughout the year through numerous activities – from bake sales and quizzes, to a charity cycle event and a Hearts Legends football match. Aegon UK then matched these funds pound for pound, bringing the grand charitable total to £66,666.

Adrian Grace, CEO at Aegon UK said: “Every year, our employees go above and beyond supporting the company’s commitment to giving back to our local community – from nominating the charities close to their hearts, through to the passion and dedication shown in raising these funds for fantastic causes. I’m extremely proud of the efforts we’ve seen from 2014 and I’ve no doubt this will continue throughout 2015.”

The three charities were chosen as the result of a company-wide vote on a shortlist of 31 charities nominated by Aegon UK employees. This year Aegon UK staff will be supporting Forth Cash for Kids, The Yard and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Gillian Messelink who received the cheque on behalf of Alzheimer Scotland, the country’s leading dementia organisation said: “On behalf of myself and my colleagues at Alzheimer Scotland I’d like to say a huge thank you to the charity committee and the Aegon UK staff in Edinburgh who have supported us in 2014.”

Valerie Simpson speaking on behalf of CCLASP,
"A charity that supports more than 500 local families dealing with children or teenagers suffering with cancer or leukaemia, said: “This is such a fantastic surprise. We’d like to thank Aegon UK employees for all of their efforts in raising this money. It will help provide much needed support to families across the region.”

Denis Griffin who was presented with the cheque for Michelle Henderson Cervical Cancer Trust, set up by Scottish football legend Willie Henderson’s daughter Michelle who sadly passed away from cervical cancer in 2012, said: “A huge thanks to all of Aegon UK staff who have participated in these events – we are truly grateful. In particular, we would like to thank Hazel Gardner for nominating us, and Vince McCann for his hard work in organising the events. Every penny of the £22,222 raised by the company will be used wisely in the fight against cervical cancer.”
