Investment - Articles - AXA IM hires John Stainsby as Head of UK Client Group

AXA Investment Managers (AXA IM) can today announce the appointment of John Stainsby as Head of UK Client Group. John will lead our UK distribution efforts across the institutional and wholesale segments.

John joins from J.P. Morgan Asset Management where he spent 16 years, most recently as Head of UK Institutional Business. Prior to this he was Head of Global Equity Client Portfolio Management. Previously, John launched the UK office and led the sales and marketing efforts for emerging market fund manager Lloyd George Management. John also spent 12 years as an analyst and fund manager at Schroders managing equity portfolios.

John will report to Philippe d’Orgeval, Head of UK, and Christophe Coquema, Global Head of Client Group at AXA IM.

Christophe Coquema, Global Head of Client Group at AXA IM said: “John has impressive experience in both portfolio management and sales across the institutional and wholesale space. He brings a strong customer-focused mind-set and a track record of growing assets. The UK is strategically important for AXA IM and we are confident that with John at the helm we are well-positioned to build upon the current momentum.”

Commenting on his appointment John Stainsby, UK Head of Client Group at AXA IM added: “I am thrilled to join a company with such a great pedigree and deep investment expertise across all asset classes. Recent successes in key areas for UK clients such as buy and maintain credit and the short duration range plus the ability to integrate responsible investing into client mandates makes this an exciting time for the company. I look forward to working with the sales, client service and marketing teams in the UK to reinforce their focused efforts, provide solutions for clients and of course drive new business.”

In order to dedicate additional resources to the UK business, and reflecting the importance of the UK market as a major investment and distribution centre for AXA IM, the former Head of UK role was split in two in November 2015. Philippe d’Orgeval was appointed and has responsibility for the development of AXA IM in the UK, maintaining the relationship with the UK regulator as well as implementing UK strategy.

Tim Gardener who took on the Head of UK Client Group on a temporary basis will work closely with John to ensure a smooth transition. He will continue to work with AXA IM’s institutional clients and prospects globally to help deliver solutions that meet their investment needs.
