General Insurance Article - Bluefin & GLP unveil legal product for Marine Market

GENERAL Legal Protection Limited has launched an innovative new legal expenses and assistance product for the marine market after working closely with boat insurance specialist Bishop Skinner Marine, which is the first company in the UK selling the new product.

Broker Bishop Skinner Marine is part of Bluefin Insurance Services and the firm is the endorsed insurance broker for the Royal Yachting Association and a supporter of the RNLI.

The new product is specifically designed to appeal to all types of boat owners when they buy hull insurance policies. It offers a wide range of benefits over existing products including one telephone number for all services and direct access to specialist marine solicitors when making a claim.

It also covers identity fraud, emergency travel expenses and emergency towing and mooring fees across extended territories including Australia, Bermuda, Cape Verde Islands, the Caribbean, Hong Kong and New Zealand. Indemnity limits include £150,000 for legal expenses claims, £2,000 for emergency travel and £1,000 for towing and mooring fees.

André Scruton, Managing Director of York headquartered General Legal Protection, says: “The marine market is a very specialist area and we listened carefully to the requirements and experiences of Bishop Skinner’s team of marine experts to create a product that exceeds everything else on the market and is of genuine value to customers. As a result we already have a number of other marine brokers that are keen to start selling the product.”

Bill Southgate of Bishop Skinner explains: “After reviewing our legal expenses product we felt it was time to update the cover and add to its scope to ensure it is best suited to boat owners. We were also keen to move away from the established marine legal expenses market and so we decided to create a new product from scratch with General Legal Protection.

“Considering that more than half of our customers add this protection to their policies it’s important that it does its job well. General Legal Protection has a great understanding of the market and shares our ethos for quality, which made them the ideal partner to work with and we’re delighted with the services and level of cover that the product offers.”
