Cornwall is such a beautiful county, it’s easy to understand why year after year we cannot get enough of the Cornish air and fantastic lifestyle. Travelling Actuary Eve Hartridge takes us from Mousehole to Newquay to explore The Headland Hotel.
The Headland Hotel is a stunning hotel overlooking the surfer’s paradise of Newquay. Imposing and iconic, this four star hotel is still family owned and has recently benefitted from a £20 million make-over. Despite the luxury rooms, including 11 suites the hotel has maintained a family feel and to stay here is a real treat. It is no wonder that The Headland Hotel has recently won a Trip Advisor “Certificate of Excellence” award.
Dining at the hotel is exquisite, there is a formal dining restaurant offering fine dining and set menus very reasonably priced for the quality. Seafood and locally sourced produce are specialities with set menus starting at £28 for two courses and £32 for three. The outdoor dining terrace restaurant is a firm favourite offering light bites, traditional teas with Cornish clotted cream, fresh crab sandwiches and casual brunches. The terrace is a wonderful place to relax and take in your surroundings, ideally accompanied with a glass of champagne.
The hotel has recently opened its new “wellness” centre with fantastic indoor pool, sauna, aromatherapy showers and Cornish salt steam room. On-site there is also a surf school run by award winning surfer, Ben Ridding, for those keen to experience arguably the best surf that Britain has to offer. The Headland really has something for everyone, for an activity packed weekend or just time to re-charge, relax and indulge.
Bed and Breakfast rates start at a very reasonable £99 per night for a courtyard room, animal lovers, like me will be delighted to know that well behaved dogs are very welcome at a cost of £15 per dog per night to include their own daily meal of dried food!
