Covéa Insurance, the business created from the merger of MMA Insurance and Provident Insurance, today announced two new key appointments. Martin Scarrett has been appointed Head of Electronic Trading and Malcolm Cooper has been appointed Head of Underwriting, Personal Lines.

Martin has a broad range of experience having worked in the insurance industry for over 30 years, starting his career at Melville Burbage. He joined MMA (Norman Insurance as was) in 1993 as Motor Section Leader and was appointed Household Underwriting Manager in 2006. In 2008 he was promoted to Head of Underwriting, Personal Lines. In his new role as Head of Electronic Trading, Martin will lead delivery of Covéa Insurance’s e-trading strategy and the management of relationships with the software house partners. Martin will report to Clive Bryant, IT & Business Services Director.

Malcolm joined MMA at the start of 2012 as a consultant, principally to assist in developing risk-modelling for household lines. He has broad ranging insurance experience having held senior pricing and underwriting roles at Legal & General and Direct Line/RBS. As Head of Underwriting, Personal Lines, Malcolm will lead a range of activities focused on effective underwriting control and risk selection for Covéa Insurance’s private car, commercial vehicle and home products.  James Reader, Chief Executive of Covéa Insurance commented: “Our new combined organisation provides us with a great foundation upon which to build and we’re fortunate to have a wealth of talented and hugely experienced people within our business. I’m delighted to announce these two key appointments, and Martin and Malcolm’s breadth of experience and expertise will be invaluable in helping us to shape and drive our e-trading and personal lines underwriting strategies.”
