Lifestyle Article - Experienced actuary joins First Actuarial from Isio

Kathy Deverell-Smith, an actuary who brings a breadth of professional experience, has joined First Actuarial from Isio. Kathy will be delivering services to both trustees and employees from the firm’s Manchester office.

Kathy started her actuarial career at Willis Towers Watson. Following a move to Deloitte, she joined KPMG, which then became Isio.

Kathy says: “I’ve moved to First Actuarial because it’s clear that the firm shares my people-first outlook. That comes across in the way we prioritise the scheme members we serve, the trustees and employers we advise, and the wellbeing of the people we work with every day.”

Kathy joins First Actuarial’s Manchester office at a key moment in its growth. It already offers one of the biggest teams of pension professionals serving trustees and employers in the North West. Both the Manchester office and the firm as a whole have experienced steady, organic and sustainable growth in core markets, while developing new services for a changing market.

Across First Actuarial, employees take pride in their ability to come up with pragmatic and original solutions, and Kathy is no different.

She says: “I like thinking outside the box and I’m not afraid of challenging the status quo. It looks like there’s a lot of freedom to think differently and innovate here, and that’s something that both the market in general and our client base really need right now.”

She says: “Although it’s early days, it’s clear First Actuarial has a keen sense of purpose. I’m looking forward to working with other like-minded actuaries in delivering exceptional value to clients. As First Actuarial continues to grow, my experience – which spans trustee and corporate work – should prove valuable.”
