Lifestyle Article - First Actuarial appoint new Public Sector Pensions Head

Sue Vivian has joined First Actuarial from the Government Actuary’s Department (GAD), where she was Head of Public Sector Pensions. The move gives Sue the opportunity to put her in-depth knowledge of public service pensions to good use with the firm’s many not-for-profit clients.

Sue joined the Government Actuary’s Department (GAD) in 2004. As Head of Public Sector Pensions, Sue combined client work and responsibility for GAD’s public service pensions work with board and executive leadership.

Sue says: “I’m committed to public service pensions. They make a real difference to a lot of people’s lives and I’m keen to share the expertise I’ve gained over the years. One particular focus will be work arising from the McCloud judgement. During my time at GAD, I was responsible for coordinating work on the McCloud remedy implementation across all public service schemes.”

Sue also led the GAD team responsible for providing advice to the NHS pension schemes, and was appointed Scheme Actuary for several funded schemes.

Sue says: “I worked with First Actuarial on the NHS schemes and I always found them impressive. Their work is accessible and user-centred, while giving all the information that people need.”

Earlier in her career, Sue worked in private sector consulting – advising both trustee and corporate clients – and research and development roles.

Sue concludes: “I’m finding First Actuarial to be a friendly firm that is dynamic, open to growth, and successful at picking up new business. I think they’ve got what it takes to manage the scale of growth they’re facing without losing the ethos that has served them so well up to now.”
