A smartphone app created to reward better driving behaviour released by insurance giant AIG in Ireland has been designed and powered by technology and analytics experts The Floow.
AIG XLNTdriver (Excellent driver), which monitors a drivers performance in four key areas – smooth driving, mobile phone usage, speed and time - is the first driving app with an automatic start/stop function to hit the market, and carries potential savings of 25% on car insurance premiums.
Telematics experts The Floow were named as the as preferred supplier of telematics services to AIG globally after an extensive selection process. Their success was as a result of the company’s innovative approach to technology and analysis, and the launch in Ireland is the first result of this partnership.
The Floow shares the insurers ambition to power a product that encourages drivers to improve their driving, leading to fewer accidents on the road.
Earlier this year AIG announced that customers who use the app will be given a 5% discount on their premium immediately, and further discounts of up to 20% will be applied after three months use, subject to the scores achieved*.
Its unique auto start/stop functionality means that users do not have to stop and start the app each time they wish to make a journey. The analytics team at The Floow then uses the data to deliver a score against the driver’s behaviour on a scale of 0-100 - providing the user with a visual representation of their journey.
The cutting edge technology was designed and delivered by The Floow’s 30 strong team based in South Yorkshire, and has allowed AIG to take a unique approach to pricing car insurance and communicate with customers in a new way.
Aldo Monteforte, fellow Co-Founder and CEO of The Floow commented: “The launch of the AIG XLNTdriver app marks a milestone for The Floow, and the telematics industry as a whole.
“The app was officially launched on March 6th, making it the first to have a fully automated start/stop feature, and the sophisticated analytics that supports the data capture –which is also delivered by The Floow – means it is well placed to deliver savings to the end user, as well as encourage drivers to adopt better driving habits.
“As a business we are committed to making driving safer and cheaper for all, and we are delighted to be working with partners such as AIG who share this ethos.”
The Floow, established in 2012, has developed unique end-to-end solution techniques that enable insurers, manufacturers and fleet operators to provide ‘actionable insights’ to increase customer loyalty and return on investment.
Today the organisation is responsible for some of the most advanced and lowest-cost telematics systems in the world, working alongside the likes of AIG.
Commenting on the launch of the app, Aidan Connaughton, Consumer Lines Director at AIG in Ireland said: “The aim of AIG XLNTdriver is not only to reward good driving but also to make drivers aware of their driving behaviours and encourage better and safer driving. This is the third telematics solution we have launched in the last year and this cutting edge technology allows us to take a unique approach to pricing car insurance and communicate with our customers in a new way.”
