Life - Articles - Hymans Robertson grows life insurance advisory business

Hymans Robertson has announced the appointment of Emma McWilliam to its Enterprise Risk Management team. She joins from Milliman and will play a leading role developing risk and actuarial services for the life insurance market.

Emma will oversee the provision of a range of services that life insurers have greater demand for post changes to DC pensions announced in the 2014 budget. These relate to longevity de-risking, bulk annuities and Hymans Robertson’s DC pensions tool Guided Outcomes, which actively supports employees to save for retirement.

Douglas Anderson, Partner at Hymans Robertson said: “Emma is a clear industry leader in the longevity and bulk annuity markets, having quite literally published the book on the subject. Working together with our core life leadership team, she will lead the development and delivery of our advisory services to the life insurance market as we embark on the next stage of our ambitious expansion plans.

“Along with Emma’s, the recent appointments of Ross Evans, Stephen Makin and Matt Fletcher, all top talent in their respective fields, place us firmly as the adviser of choice for life insurers and pension schemes.”

Emma McWilliam says: “I am thrilled to be driving forward Hymans Robertson’s ambitious plans to deliver quality services to our clients at this important juncture in the longevity and retirement revolution. The firm is leading the way by bringing together the disciplines of investment, pensions and life insurance to provide best in class solutions to the retirement market. The huge success of Guided Outcomes, Club Vita, our longevity analytics hub, and our leading Enterprise Risk Management practice are testament to why life insurers are collaborating with Hymans Robertson. With more than 25 longevity specialists, our team is unparalleled."

With 20 years’ experience in the insurance industry, Emma previously held senior leadership positions at Milliman and before that, Ernst & Young. She has significant experience in the longevity and annuity markets, working with life insurers, reinsurers, investment banks and institutional investors. She is a regular industry presenter and contributor to articles and is a published Editor of ‘Longevity Risk’, by Risk Books. She is active within industry, and is Chairman of the Investment and Life Assurance Group’s Financial Reporting Practitioner Group.
