Investment - Articles - Jonathan Crowther to lead UK AXA LDI team

AXA Investment Managers today announced a senior hire to its UK LDI team.

Jonathan Crowther joins AXA IM as Head of UK LDI. He has spent the last six years at Legal & General Investment Management, where he was one of the founding members of its Solutions Group and oversaw the delivery of advanced risk management and hedging solutions to more than 100 UK pension schemes. Prior to this, Jonathan worked at Watson Wyatt for over four years, and was responsible for managing LDI projects as well as delivering investment advice on scheme governance and risk budgeting. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries.

AXA IM has extensive global expertise in developing actively managed LDI solutions for pension schemes and institutional investors, having first used derivatives for risk management purposes in 1997. Jonathan joins AXA IM’s growing London-based LDI team, which offers a range of solutions to schemes of all sizes, including bespoke LDI pooled funds and segregated accounts. He will be responsible for further tailoring AXA IM’s offering to the needs of the UK market, delivering effective de-risking solutions to new and existing clients.

Laurent Seyer, Global Head of Multi-Asset Client Solutions, said: “As part of one of the largest insurers in the world, asset and liability management is in AXA IM’s DNA. Our global investment solutions platform is one of the most comprehensive in the market, and is at the cornerstone of our ambition to extend our relationships with third party institutional investors. In this respect, we’ve made the development of our UK LDI business a priority and the appointment of an individual of Jonathan’s calibre shows the importance we place on serving our UK clients.

“Jonathan is a recognised leader in the UK LDI market and has an outstanding track record of building businesses and solving the needs of a diverse set of institutional clients. We’re thrilled he’s joining AXA IM at this exciting time in our development, as we look to further establish ourselves as a leading solutions provider to UK pension schemes.”

Irshaad Ahmad, Head of UK and Nordics, commented: “Many UK pension schemes have a low level of hedging in place, and de-risking is becoming a top priority as longevity rises and volatility in contributions continues. We’re significantly strengthening our UK LDI capabilities in order to deliver the investment solutions schemes need today. Jonathan has excellent credentials and will contribute greatly to the expertise and service we provide for clients, as well as the continued development of our product range.
