Pensions - Articles - Just Retirement innovates with a bespoke appointment

Leading provider of enhanced annuities and the second largest provider of equity release mortgages in the UK, Just Retirement have appointed Dr Tim Crayford as Medical Director.

Dr Crayford has held a number of key roles throughout his career, most recently as the Chief Medical Adviser to the Department of Transport and Medical Director for Norfolk Community NHS Trust. He served as Director of Public Health for the Croydon Area for several years and trained at Bart's Hospital.
In this role, Crayford will take the lead on developing the next generation of underwriting expertise for Just Retirement, which builds on the company's current leading position in this area. Part of his remit will include heading up a small multi-disciplinary team of medical professionals, statisticians, and underwriters to develop this expertise and to further Just Retirement's research into extending its market offering in the impaired sector.
Shayne Deighton, Group Risk and Actuarial Director, commented: "As a market leader in detailed medical underwriting for annuities we have plans to extend our already inventive approach. Dr Crayford's appointment underscores our commitment to developing our underwriting to help customers achieve the best retirement income. This is an excellent appointment and we are delighted to introduce Dr Crayford's wealth of experience and expertise to the company."
Stephen Lowe, Group External Affairs & Customer Insight Director
