Pensions - Articles - Latest Pension Protection Fund 7800 Index


Since July 2007 the Pension Protection Fund has published the latest estimated funding position, on a s179 basis, for the defined benefit schemes in its eligible universe.

 The PPF 7800 index is published on the second Tuesday of every month, and the PPF publishes The Purple Book each year. 

 Highlights

 The aggregate deficit of the 5,794 schemes in the PPF 7800 Index is estimated to have decreased over the month to £158.0 billion at the end of September 2017, from a deficit of £220.4 billion at the end of August 2017.
 The funding ratio increased from 87.6 per cent at end of August 2017 to 90.6 per cent.
 Total assets were £1,524.3 billion and total liabilities were £1,682.3 billion.
 There were 4,079 schemes in deficit and 1,715 schemes in surplus.
