Lloyds of London, the world’s leading specialist insurance market, has been nominated as a finalist in the Coutts & Co Large-Cap Business of the Year category of the National Business Awards.
Over 150 of Britain’s most innovative and sustainable public and private sector businesses have been announced today, Tuesday 2nd August, as finalists of the National Business Awards in partnership with Orange. Organisations shortlisted this year range from the well-known Debenhams,JD Wetherspoon, moneysupermarket.com, Harvey Nash, Majestic Wine and Supergroup – through to the rising stars of Ovo Energy, Door-Stop, ShortList Media and HeartSine Technologies.
Announcing the finalists in the nomination only category of The Coutts & Co Large-Cap Business of the Year, Michael Morley, Chief Executive, Coutts & Co, which has an office in Oxford, said:“We continue to live in challenging times and British business is instrumental in driving the economic recovery. Lloyd’s of London qualified as a finalist because it demonstrated the vital role played by insurance companies as a safety net for economies all over the world. Lloyd’s proved its resilience and sound management in 2010 with pre-tax profits of nearly £2.2bn despite claims arising from major natural catastrophes in Japan, Chile, New Zealand and Australia. It has taken challenging regulation like Solvency II head on, transforming its internal processes, and is enabling an industry-wide shift in practice to mitigate risk associated with climate change.
