General Insurance Article - Marmalade launches first temporary student car insurance

Any student going to University this September will now be able to get temporary insurance cover on a parent’s car, thanks to a new product launched by Marmalade, one of the leading providers of cars and insurance for young drivers.

Marmalade’s comprehensive Student Driver Insurance policy is the first to cater specifically for students needing temporary cover when they’re at home. It’s available to anyone in further education aged between 18 and 27 years old, including those who haven’t yet started but have a place confirmed for September 2015.

The new policy offers students fully comprehensive cover lasting between 7 and 28 days. It covers young people with a driving licence who want to drive a parent’s or friend’s car, without risking the car owner’s no claims bonus. Applications can be made quickly and simply via Marmalade’s website and cover is available immediately. There is also a 10% discount for Marmalade’s existing learner driver insurance policy customers who have had a policy for three months or more.

Annabel Martin, a student at Kingston University in London said: “A policy specifically tailored for students is perfect. I have so much independence when I am away at university, but I feel like I have to take a step back in the holidays and my freedom suffers as I have to ask people for lifts. I was home the other weekend and I had to rely on my Nan to drive me!”

“Having the flexibility to get short-term cover as and when I need it will be a big help and means I can catch up with all my friends and family when I need to.”

Crispin Moger, CEO at Marmalade, said: “We know from our research that many university students don’t own their own cars, but that doesn’t mean they don’t need to get out and about when they’re at home. This latest product in our insurance portfolio has been specifically created for young people, offering flexibility and independence for the driver and protection for the car owner.”
