General Insurance Article - Mazars appoints Restructuring Services partner

Mazars has appointed Neil Mather as a partner in its restructuring services team.

Neil has 25 years of experience in restructuring and insolvency, having held senior roles at Deloitte and most recently at Begbies Traynor, where he led services to the financial services, insurance and cross border markets.

Neil has particular experience in the insurance insolvency market, where he has dealt with almost all insurance company cases in the UK in the last ten years. He is administrator of Millburn Insurance Co, which was the most recent UK insurer to fail, and prior to that of Exchange Insurance Co, the previous UK insurer to fail.

He is also provisional liquidator of 14 Lloyd’s corporate capital companies and has dealt with numerous troubled brokers and managing agencies, including BPS Insure and Euclidian Underwriting. He has worked on two schemes of arrangement, and on investigations into Equitable Life, an Indonesian life insurer, various P&I clubs and the failure of the United Medical Protection Society in Australia.

Neil comments: “I’m delighted to be joining Mazars: the firm has a strong reputation in the insolvency market and a large team of insurance industry specialists to draw on. The team has some very experienced and talented individuals and I’m looking forward to working with them to further develop the business.”

Neil is a member of the Insolvency Committee of the Council of the ICAEW. Outside of work, he is a trustee of Hastings Pier Charity, which recently reopened Hastings Pier after raising £15m to rebuild it after it burned down in 2010.

Mazars’ Restructuring Services practice has a national team of over 100 reorganisation and recovery professionals dedicated to helping businesses in difficulty. The team advises a wide range of clients across the UK - from large corporations, major banks and law firms to government agencies. We also advise across many sectors including agriculture, the leisure industry and construction.
