Mercer, one of the world’s leading providers of human resource consulting, outsourcing and investment services, is expanding its business in Scotland and moving to new offices at Edinburgh’s prestigious Quartermile One development. The company plans to relocate in November from its current premises at Hanover Street – enabling it to accommodate new team members, integrate its multi-disciplinary teams more effectively, and provide more streamlined services.
The firm has an Edinburgh team of nearly 100 pensions, investments and benefits professionals. Within the services sector, it is one of the largest employers in Scotland, with its offices in Glasgow and Aberdeen employing an additional 200 people.
Steven Blackie, Mercer's regional business leader in Scotland, commented: "The move demonstrates our continued commitment to growth and investment in Scotland. We have secured several major new clients in the past year, and our new location offers the potential to expand our teams further as we continue to develop the business."
The firm's business is particularly focused on helping companies adopt human resource and related financial strategies to cope with business change. “With economic conditions getting tougher, Scottish businesses face difficult business challenges such as how to manage their financial risks and reduce employment costs while continuing to increase performance. Pension fund investments are a particular area of focus for our clients as these face exposure to the current uncertainty and volatility of global markets. Many companies are seeking a way of improving their scheme governance and managing their risks in a more robust way."
Mercer's latest move in Edinburgh is part of a property strategy in Scotland and across the UK, focused on securing space and energy efficiency, and high technology servicing. In July, Mercer moved to new premises at G1, Glasgow’s central landmark development, following a similar business strategy of combining its multi-disciplinary teams, providing for expansion and adopting state-of-the-art and eco-friendly facilities.
Ben Reed, Director of Jones Lang LaSalle who acted for Mercer's Edinburgh move, commented: “The arrival of another well respected professional services firm can only be good news for the Quartermile development. Given Edinburgh’s current lack of Grade A office space offering large floor plates, Quartermile proved popular with Mercer due to its efficient layout and services, its central location and excellent neighbouring facilities for staff. There are few other places within Edinburgh that can offer such stunning views.”
