Pensions in the National Accounts: Compiling a complete picture of UK pensions including unfunded pensions for public sector employees

ONS has begun work to produce a UK supplementary table on pensions as part of efforts to address new international requirements for the National Accounts.
Total obligations, or gross liabilities, are being calculated for the first time for both funded and unfunded pensions.

As a result of this work, ONS will be able to provide a complete estimate of household pension entitlements in the UK (equivalent to the gross liabilities of pension providers, including the government).
These will include rights to state pensions as well as pensions provided through employment.
