Lifestyle Article - PLSA appoint new head of Research and Policy for LGPS and DB

The Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association (PLSA) is bolstering its policy and research teams with two new appointments.

Simon Sarkar has joined as Head of Research, having previously worked at the Financial Conduct Authority for over 13 years within the research team. In his new role, he will manage the research programme at the PLSA, commissioning and undertaking research for a range of industry and consumer projects.

Tiffany Tsang also joins the PLSA as Policy Lead within the Governance & Investment team, working across defined benefit pensions and Local Government Pension Schemes (LGPS). She is an economist and pension policy specialist with over 15 years of public policy experience. Prior to the PLSA, she was a Policy Adviser for the Association of British Insurers, and she has also been announced as a finalist in the Rising Star category of the Professional Pensions’ inaugural Women in Pensions Awards.

Commenting on the announcements Julian Mund, Chief Executive, PLSA, said: “The high quality work of our policy and research teams is at the heart of what we do at the PLSA, and the benefits we offer to our members. I’m delighted to welcome Simon and Tiffany to the organisation and believe their extensive experience across pensions, savings and retirement will help us on our journey to ensuring everyone can achieve a better income in retirement.”

Simon Sarkar, Head of Research, PLSA, commented:“I am very pleased to join the experienced team at the PLSA and help develop the research programme across so many important areas. The ‘Hitting the Target’ project has proven particularly interesting to work on, and I look forward to feeding into the next stages of this campaign.”

Tiffany Tsang, Policy Lead: DB, PLSA, said: “It is an exciting time to join the PLSA, with the recent release of the Government’s DB white paper, ongoing discussions around DB consolidation, and the start of the next phase of the pooling process in the LGPS sphere. I’m extremely passionate about the work the PLSA does to safeguard retirement outcomes for savers, and I look forward to helping it continue to develop solutions to the complex issues in these sectors.”
