General Insurance Article - Proposed changes to the IFoA Actuaries’ Code

The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) is launching a consultation on proposed changes to the Actuaries’ Code on October 3rd 2017.

The changes being recommended by the IFoA’s Regulation Board are outlined in the consultation paper. As well as changes to the Code itself, the proposals include the introduction of a single comprehensive guidance document to assist Members in understanding their professional and regulatory responsibilities under the Code.

If you have an interest in the actuarial profession and the Actuaries Code, we want to hear your views. A link to an online version of the consultation package and the questionnaire can be found on the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries’ website.

The deadline for responses is 17 January 2018.

Ben Kemp, General Counsel at the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, said: We are very keen to spread the net as wide as possible for this consultation, hearing from all our members and any other parties interested in actuarial science. We want to make it as easy as possible for our members to understand their professional and regulatory responsibilities, but for that to happen, we need to allow for proper consideration of the proposed changes to the Actuaries' Code. All submissions to this consultation will help inform those changes and provide us with a good overview of any suggestions or concerns.”

Consultation meetings will be held on:
 • 30 October 2017 at Staple Inn, High Holborn, London WC1V 7QJ from 17:30 hours GMT.

 • 7 November 2017 at Level 2, Exchange Crescent,
7 Conference Square, Edinburgh EH3 8RA from 17:30 hours GMT.

For those unable to attend the consultation meetings in person, a recording of the London session will be made available via the IFoA website. Information about the to provide feedback on any matters discussed at the consultation meeting will also be provided.

Details of any further consultation events will be shared on the events page of the IFoA website.

Please inform the IFoA via email if you are planning to attend one of the consultation meetings or would like to find out more about the consultation.
