Pensions - Articles - PwC grows its pensions consulting team to meet client demand

PwC has boosted its pensions consulting team with the appointment of a new equity partner and four new directors. This investment follows double digit annual growth for PwC’s pensions and investment consulting team in each of the past three years.

Richard Giles has been promoted to equity partner, while Saq Hussain, Maria Johannessen and Steven Kirkpatrick have all been promoted to director.

Nathan Blackwell has joined the team as a director, responsible for the commercial and operational aspects of Skyval, PwC’s pensions analytics platform, which can be adopted by all pension plan trustees and sponsors, regardless of which advisers they use. Nathan was previously commercial director at Thales UK and, before that, head of corporate finance at Invensys. He is also a trustee of the Invensys Pension Scheme.

Richard Giles heads up the firm’s pension advisory team in the North, based in Leeds. He specialises in helping companies and trustees to manage the costs and risks to them from their pension scheme.

Saq Hussain is part of PwC’s growing defined contribution (DC) team and he leads a team in the North which includes DC and investment specialists. His work includes helping organisations with the governance and design of their DC arrangements to ensure they are enabling employees to adequately save for the future.

Maria Johannessen is London-based and part of PwC’s pensions investment team. She advises corporate and trustee clients on their strategy for managing defined benefit schemes and investment.

Steven Kirkpatrick is a director in PwC’s deals team, where he helps clients to understand and handle HR and pensions matters in corporate transactions.

Raj Mody, head of PwC’s pensions consulting team and Skyval, said:

“These appointments and promotions reflect the strong growth of our pensions business in recent years. I expect the expansion of our team to continue, as pension scheme sponsors and trustees increasingly look for advisors who can take a broader view of the opportunities and challenges for their pension schemes and develop appropriate solutions. Our Skyval platform has expanded and enhanced the services and solutions we can provide to the industry, and allowed clients to upgrade their approach to running pension schemes while reducing overall costs.”

Nathan Blackwell, Skyval operations leader, commented:

“As a previous user of pension advisory services I am particularly keen to share my client-side knowledge and experience. I was hugely impressed by the capabilities of Skyval to support clients in their decision-making and so joining a firm such as PwC was a natural next step for me.”
