Royal London Group - the UK’s largest mutual life, pensions and investment company - has appointed Toby Bainbridge as Head of Reinsurance – a new role in the Group’s intermediary division, based in Edinburgh.

Toby Bainbridge joins Royal London from Legal & General, where he was Head of Reinsurance for its insurance business. Earlier in his career, Toby spent 10 years at Munich Re working in a number of roles from Underwriting to Business Development.

Toby started his new role with Royal London at the beginning of April, with an immediate focus on improving the Intermediary protection business’s reinsurance management. With a strong background in risk management, Toby will also manage two key teams: Underwriting and Claims philosophy, and Underwriting Rules Development.

Commenting on Toby’s arrival, Debbie Kennedy Head of Protection for Royal London’s Intermediary Division said:
“I’m delighted to welcome Toby to Royal London. His strong track record of proposition development and reassurance partnership work brings real strength to Royal London. Toby is a core member of an already talented team that is dedicated to developing our protection propositions. He joins as Bright Grey and Scottish Provident embark on an extremely busy and exciting phase of transformation.”

 Toby added:
“This is an exciting opportunity to join an extremely able Royal London team in a period of transition, and I am looking forward to the challenge of helping develop what will be market-leading protection propositions.”
