Investment - Articles - Standard Life appoints Head of Digital Operations


 Standard Life has announced the appointment of David Ratcliffe as its Head of Digital Operations.David has more than 12 years experience in digital technology and will lead a large team at the long term savings and investment company's headquarters in Edinburgh.
 
 He will be responsible for driving efficiency and development for Standard Life's digital platforms, working closely with the UK proposition and marketing teams on the financial adviser focussed extranet www.adviserzone.co.uk and consumer site, www.standardlife.co.uk.
 
 David will also be establishing how to effectively manage new channels for Standard Life, such as social networks and mobile applications.
 
 Before joining Standard Life, David was Head of Digital at the Claverley Group, the owners of regional newspapers, radio stations and technology companies in the Midlands and Channel Islands, for five years. Prior to that he was Director of Interactive TV at 24/7 Real Media and he was New Channel Manager at utility giant Centrica before that.
 
 David Ratcliffe said: "Standard Life's commitment to developing its digital channels and advancing its technological capabilities, both in the past and in the future, were strong factors in attracting me to the post.
 
 "Standard Life is in a very advanced position in the digital space. My task is to really drive development forward by securing commonality and integration across all of our digital channels to maximise their performance. This will ensure the company remains on the front foot of technological innovation.
 
 "My team will also be proactive in identifying how Standard Life's digital function can support each business unit within the company, helping them reach their own goals and objectives."
 
 Another key part of David's role will be to increase the responsiveness of Standard Life's digital channels.
 
 David will report directly into Kevin O'Shaughnessy, Group Digital Director at Standard Life.
 
 Kevin said: "David brings with him more than a decades experience in working in technology and he will play a vital role in driving Standard Life's digital strategy forward. His success in delivering mobile, social media, SEO and behavioural targeting campaigns will be of great value to the company.
 
 "Integrating the right technology into a company's business model is vital for success in this fast changing consumer world as it makes it more nimble and flexible. The investments we have made in Standard Life's new digital infrastructure have put the company in a very strong position for future growth and development and David's appointment will help accelerate our technological programme to help us achieve this."
 
 Standard Life's Digital Enabler Programme was awarded the Best IT Project at the 2011 Scottish Technology Awards on Thursday 23rd June.
