Pensions - Articles - Swires appoints Hymans Robertson as scheme actuary

The trustees of Swire’s three UK defined benefit pensions have appointed Hymans Robertson, the independent pensions, benefits and risk consultancy, as their scheme actuary, administrator and strategic risk adviser. These schemes are the Finlays Pension Fund, the John Swire & Sons Pension Plan and the Swire (1989) Retirement Benefits Scheme, which collectively hold assets of around £200m.

Over almost 200 years, Swire has grown and diversified from a small import-export business into a highly diversified conglomerate headquartered in Swire House in Westminster, London. It employs 130,000 worldwide and its interests span a large range of wholly owned businesses, including deep-sea shipping, aviation, cold storage, road transport and tea, along with energy and oil businesses and investments.

Swire selected Hymans Robertson following a competitive tender process which involved three firms.

Calum Cooper, partner and scheme actuary at Hymans Robertson, said:
“Hymans Robertson has had the privilege of advising the Finlays Pension Fund for the past 35 years. As you can imagine, we’re absolutely delighted to have this opportunity to partner with all three sets of trustees as we forge a common course across their schemes, all in pursuit of delivering the pensions promised efficiently and cost effectively”.
