General Insurance Article - Willis appointed for Bloodhound Supersonic Car

Willis Group Holdings, the global risk advisory, re/insurance broking, and human capital and benefits firm, announced today that it has been appointed lead insurance broker and risk adviser to the BLOODHOUND Supersonic Car (SSC), including the building and testing of the vehicle as well as its forthcoming world record attempt.

In September this year, BLOODHOUND SSC will head to South Africa’s Kalahari Desert in a bid to set a new world land speed record of 800 mph (1287 kmh). In 2016 the BLOODHOUND Project will attempt a 1,000 mph land speed record – an achievement that could mark the biggest jump in land speed history.

Nicolas Aubert, Chief Executive Officer of Willis GB, said:
“Managing every aspect of risk, from the build and testing of the engine and car through to the world land speed record attempt, is fundamental to the success of this unique initiative. Willis is immensely proud to be a partner to the BLOODHOUND project team, helping them to manage risk and realise their ambitions on this unique and innovative project.”

Adam Piper, Willis’s lead broker on the programme, added:
“This is all about resilience at 1,000 miles per hour. Developing a tailored and comprehensive risk and insurance programme to meet the evolving requirements of this inspiring engineering adventure demands an analytical approach to risk. Willis and our London insurance partners are closely aligned with the BLOODHOUND project’s risk management philosophy – this is critical to ensure success.”
